Events

Note: We have public and private events.  Our  ‘private’ events are kept at an ‘invitation-only’ level and are for socializing and community-building. Any ‘public’ event we create ourselves, or are involved in with others, is an act of educational outreach.

If you are a member of our community you can enjoy the privilege of going to any of our events. We have several event organizers creating social as well as activist related events each month. Many events are at local all vegan restaurants and non-vegan businesses. Of course these all cost money. Some of the types of events we have are: Dining out; educational outreach; socializing; activism; documentary screenings; potlucks; policy changing; marches; vegan fest, fairs, and popups; citizen science; birding; kayak tours; trail hikes; barefoot beach walks; beach party's; vegan travel group: and vegan picnics in nature.

One event each month costs nothing but time, that is our Vegan Picnics in Nature events. This is not a potluck, it is a vegan-only brown bag lunch event somewhere we can connect with nature. These have been kayak/SUP tours, trail hikes, barefoot beach walks, beach party's, birding, fossil hunting (yes, that's vegan approved), snorkeling and cycling. The pandemic nixed a few ideas we had like trolley tour food tastings and having our own vegan market. They may come back around again.

Finally, each year we enjoy a community ThanksVegan Day potluck on Thanksgiving Day as a form of social activism.

Ringling Bridge Lighting
On Friday evening, November 1st, 2024, at dusk, the Sarasota Vegan Society will be recognized by having the Ringling Causeway Bridge lit with our society colors of Orange, Green, and Purple. This is so that the rest of Sarasota's residents are aware of those of us who choose a lifestyle that omits animals from our diet, entertainment, testing, material goods and other exploitation that also benefits our health and planet.

[Each year, the City of Sarasota Commissioner's Office identifies and approves a special lighting schedule for the Ringling Bridge. The Commission adopted Resolution No.24R-3224 on December 4, 2023, which signals the City of Sarasota's support of FDOT lighting the Ringling Causeway Bridge in the recognition of the days identified. Lighting will occur 30 minutes after sunset and will end 30 minutes after sunrise.]
