Purpose

To achieve a global enlightened civilization by building community through volunteer work, screening documentaries, utilizing local and social media, enjoying potlucks in nature, restaurant meetups, educational outreach, activism and policy change.

Accomplishments

We proudly advocate for humane treatment of non-human animals, whether wild or domesticated. Many in our community conduct direct protests or marches to this point. We have participated in the banning of dog racing tracks in Florida as well as helping to shut down Ringling Circus in 2017, after 146 years of animal cruelty, to reopening in 2022 as a circus of humans only. Our biggest goal is working with statewide businesses, organizations and individuals to make Florida a vegan state by 2030. Part of this is getting city, county and state governments to endorse The Plant Based Treaty.

Definition of Veganism

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.”

What Rights Do We Have As Vegans

International Law
Our rights as vegans begins with the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights (The Declaration). Two international covenants give legal effect to the Articles of the Declaration. These are the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). They restate our rights and indicate the obligations of member nations.

Veganism As A Recognized Belief System

In January 2020, an Employment Tribunal in England held ethical veganism to be a philosophical belief and therefore a protected characteristic pursuant to the Equality Act 2010. As such, ethical vegans may gain protection from discriminatory treatment.

The goal isn't to make everyone a vegan. It's to end speciesism that will render veganism obsolete.
